Killing Off Laziness 😴 With God's Word! ⚔ ✝

Laziness is the dominating spirit blocking the will of God in our lives. Why would Satan even fight against you if he can convince you to go back to sleep? Put a stop to this with the weapons God has already given us!

Laziness is a big problem across all generations, and my goal is to share with you the tools and revelation God has blessed me with to come against it.

After years of struggling with laziness God has shown me I need to stop serving myself. That's what laziness is, you're serving yourself and your flesh's desires. I remember right before God gave me this ministry I was overworked in my job and God was starting to wake me up a 3:30am to pray and read. I was doing ok in the mornings but at the end of the day I was just so tired. After work I would just lay on the couch and watch YouTube for hours, as I was falling asleep I felt the Holy Spirit ask me, "What if you stopped saying you were tired?". My heart sank, but I didn't make a change. About a week later at 4am, I was slipping back into laziness and wanted to just go back to sleep and I said to myself, "ugh, I'm so tired. I don't know if I'll read the bible for long" and the Holy Spirit replied, "Stop saying you're tired!" and my heart dropped!

So God is very serious about your lack of effort. I'm not here to throw a brick at a drowning shipmate, rather this post is dedicated to be a lifejacket. As much as Jesus has convicted me of my sin of laziness, he's also given me real tools to freedom.

I've noticed three chain events that follow a lazy day:

  • When the alarm first rings you are faced with a decision, getup or snooze

  • Every morning where I decide to sleep in, the rest of the day feels "off" like I'm trying to "catch up" for lost time.

  • After sleeping in I tend to act on laziness throughout the day.

What does the Bible say about laziness:

Proverbs 21:17

"Whoever loves pleasure will become poor, whoever loves wine or olive oil will never become rich."

Proverbs 21:25

" The desires of the sluggard will be the death of him because his hands refuse to work"

Colossians 3:23

"Whatever you do, work at it will all your heart as working for the Lord and not man."

Proverbs 19:15

"Laziness brings on a deep sleep and the shiftless man goes hungry"

Proverbs 14:23

"All hard work brings a profit, mere talk leads only to poverty"

Matthew 26: 40-44

"And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done. And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy. And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words."

Proverbs 16:3

"Commit to the Lord whatever you do and he will direct your plans"

This is just a handful of the verses that cover laziness. But those verses along only tell you not to be lazy, but how do you actually walk that out? It's simple really, do what Christ did. We see Jesus praying in the morning. Mark 1:35 "Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.". And if we should be like Christ shouldn't we do the same?

When you get up for the day, you're normally woken up from an alarm clock. Most of us hit the snooze button, but I've come to realize you're giving in to the spirit of compromise and laziness when you do that. In that moment you start your day giving into a demonic spirit or the flesh, rather than spending time to God and submitting to Him. If you sleep in, you're not starting your day off with Jesus, you're not getting your oil lamp full and ready for the day, you're not receiving direction. You're not putting on your armor, and the battle doesn't stop and wait for you to put your armor on. You're renting out a room in your home to the demonic spirit of laziness, how long until he decides it's his home? If he puts a lock on that door he has legal right to stay... And evictions are never pretty. This is EXACTLY where Satan wants you. He wants you to NOT have Jesus on your mind and when your mind isn't on Christ, God will not give you perfect peace (Isaiah 26:3 "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee."). Nor will you receive direction for your day. But what if you don't pray in the mornings and instead like to pray in the afternoons or before bed? You're missing out, and your focus on God isn't as clear because the cares and worries of the day are on you like a fog.

If Jesus prayed in the mornings, then we should. It's very consistent that your flesh, demonic oppressions, and earthly desires separate you from God. More importantly, God doesn't like excuses when it comes to fulfilling the things He asks of us. Imagine telling God, "Sorry for not giving you praise for another day, I didn't feel like it. It felt so much better sleeping in..." God deserves that time in the morning! And I say you can't afford to NOT give him that time.

The most life changing experiences I've had with God came in the mornings. God has a pattern of speaking in the mornings, but if I never sought after him eagerly in the mornings I'd be the same hopeless fool I WAS! Satan wants to trip you up, he wants to give you every reason to miss out on the blessings God has for you. And God's promises are for those who SEEK. You are not seeking by sleeping in, you are not seeking by wasting the time God has blessed you with, and time IS a blessing. If our works will be judged by God, what do you think will happen if you don't have anything to show? I imagine it will be like the servant who was given gold and rather than investing it, he burred it. Things didn't go well for him... (Matthew 25: 14-30).

And if you're being oppressed by a demonic spirit, it's no excuse in God's eyes, you're expected to resist the devil after you submit to God. James 4:7 "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you."

Ask God to change you, but you better believe you need to put in your work and continue to fight off the flesh. Just like God said to Cain, (Genesis 4:7) "If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him." And if you're falling to the flesh, you are not walking by the Holy Spirit Galatians 5:16 "Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh" so let's not lie to ourselves thinking we are some super Christian when we aren't' even a satisfactory faker.

Now you must make a decision, will you ignore the word of God and pass this message off? Or will you accept the living word of God and change your ways?

Colossians 3:23

"Whatever you do, work at it will all your heart as working for the Lord and not man."

I'll let God speak for himself:

John 14:15

"If ye love me, keep my commandments."
