Many of us in Christ understand the sin of abortion, and abandonment. Killing an innocent life or someone leaving their child in a dumpster is a stomach turning thought that many of us pray would end. These two sins are equally murder in God's eyes.
In Ezekiel 16 God describes His encounter with an abandoned baby. He describes this baby as, "polluted in thine own blood", left alone with no one to take, no one gave this baby a home or "to have compassion upon", this baby had no swaddle and was forsaken by all. Ezekiel 16:5 "No one looked on you with pity or had compassion enough to do any of these things for you. Rather, you were thrown out into the open field, for on the day you were born you were despised."
Further down in this chapter, God says he covered the nakedness of this baby, entered into a covenant, thoroughly washed the polluted blood off the skin of this baby, and then claimed this abandoned baby as His own "and thou becamest mine". But God didn't stop there, He showered this child with gifts, love, food, jewelry, and anointing oil.
This forsaken baby destined to die, is us. Our wickedness, idolatry and sin left us in a constant state of abandonment and damnation. We were starving from God's word yet didn't even know it. Although no one loved you, God did. Although you were born naked in the shame of your sin, God freely by his grace clothed you with his righteousness. Although you had nothing to feed your spirit and were dying of starvation, God gave you his everlasting word. God filled you with the jewels of salvation, gifts of the Holy Spirit, and seal of the Holy Spirit. So why do we walk past the other babies we were born with, who are dying in the same field God rescued us from?
Every single time we pass on evangelism, stay away from people because of their sin, or cut them out of our lives because they are just "wicked sinners", we share in the same sin of abortion. We turn a blind eye as we pass on the dying children crying in the field of abandonment. When we make decisions like this we forget where we came from, we forget that it was God's love that spared us, we forsake the blood of Jesus that testifies of His grace.
Do you know why the Holy Spirit grieves in you when you fail to share the Word with someone? Because it hurts His heart to see you walk past a dying baby when you've been given more than enough to support them. And in the same way God KEEPS prompting us to share the word, irregardless of the number of dying children we forsake, God also forgives those who've committed abortion. How can you not mourn inside at the thought of this? Have we become so selfish that we can't share our infinite excess of God's word with those who need it the most? This is why heaven is full of joy when one sinner repents (Luke 15:7), because a dying baby was given life in Jesus Christ as we offer what God did to us, to others!
It's hard to love others when you don't see them for who they are. It's a truth we are in constant condemnation of God's law and it's only through faith in Jesus' payment for sin that we've been given eternal life. And if we believe this, our works should follow. Share your salvation, testify of His goodness, and open your heart to be moved by the Holy Spirit. It'd be a heartbreaking sight to see empty rooms in heaven.
Hebrews 9:26-28 "For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation."
